Japanese Geographical Union
1. Introduction
During the process of the economy-globalization and the rapid development of the Asian economy, the geographers in the Asian country (e.g. China, Japan, Korea) play an important role in the sustainable development of regional and global social-economy. The Asian geographical research has its particular regional features when comparing with the international geographical research. Therefore it is important to have a symposium for the international communication and cooperation in the geographical research. However, there are still many questions on this subject, including the further contribution of the geographical research to the Asian development and the necessity and possibility of the international cooperation, which should be discussed by the Asian geographers especially the young geographers. To report on and synthesize the research progress in geography, and to promote the international communication in the Asian geographical research, the “Sino-Japan-Korean Symposium of Young Geographers” will be held during September 15-19, 2006, in Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China.
2. Scientific Theme and Topics
The main theme of the Symposium: Geography and Asian Development. It includes the following topics:
(1) Globalization and reorganization of regional economy;
(2) Global change and eco-environmental security;
(3) Compatible development of the urban and country.
3. Program
(1) September 15, formal registration, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China;
(2) September 16-17, scientific communication, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, China;
(3) September 18, scientific and cultural tours in Beijing suburb;
(4) September 19, over.
4. Registration and Abstract Submission
English is the working language.
The symposium is open to any young geographers in China, Japan and Korea, but those interested in attending must complete the attached registration form and send it to the organizing committee of the symposium before June 30, 2006. If you have decided to participate in this symposium, please return your registration form as soon as possible so that we can confirm your participation and sent out the second circular.
The abstracts should be submitted to the organizing committee of the symposium before June 30, 2006. There are about 400-600 words for each abstract, including the title, authors, institution or company, mailing address, postcode, and e-mail. The abstracts will be selected and published.
5. Fees and Hotel
The registration fee is US$300 for conference attendees and will be paid at the Symposium. Registration fees cover admission to the conference, hotel, coffee breaks, reception, banquet, and all the conference lunch and dinner. The organizing committee will reserve hotels near the Beijing Normal University.

Deadline for confirming participation: July 30 2006;
Deadline for acceptance of abstracts: July 30 2006;
Formal registration day: September 15, 2006;
Opening of the symposium: September 16, 2005.
